Luis Jiménez has said:
"I wanted to create a dialog.
In fact it was a very heated debate. It went beyond a dialog.
"The discussion became very political.
The mayor was very conservative and was supported by the part
of the community that identified with being Hispanic, pure
Spanish, not contaminated in any way by Native American or
Mexican origins, and yet lives in what I would consider to
be Native American homes and eats Native American food.
"What happened, in fact,
when they actually tried to halt the project. There was another
part of the city that really identified with the work that
came forward and said, if they don't want it out there in
front of the museum, we want it in Martineztown."
