Jiménez collects images not
only from sketching and from life experience, but also fills
his workspace with photos, reproductions, and drawings.
Image collections on his drawing studio
walls come from many art traditions, including pre-Hispanic
Mexican sculpture, folk art, and mass-produced consumer objects.
He also draws upon traditional Western
art history, which he studied formally at universities in
Texas, briefly in Mexico, and as a sculptor's assistant in
New York City.
Pre-Renaissance painted sculpture and
painted Mexican folk art sculpture have influenced his work.
