Museo Popul Vuh, Guatemala City, Guatemala

The Museo Popol Vuh in Guatamala City is an important resource for the Transcendent Icon/Resplendent Quetzal project. The piece pictured here of three quetzals consuming aguacatillo (a wild avacado-related fruit) is in the institution’s permanent collection, along with many other quetzal-related artifacts and art. Located at the Universidad Francisco Marroquín, Zone 10, Guatamala City, Museo Popul Vuh was founded in 1977 to house Jorge and Ella Castillo’s collection of mainly Classic period Mayan artifacts. Now much expanded, the museum is a private, nonprofit institution dedicated to scientific research and the preservation of cultural resources, and it is one of the most attractive and modern museums in Central America. More information about the Museo Popol Vuh can be found at http://www.popolvuh.ufm.edu.gt/
