Because artworks can carry special
meaning, some people are willing to do a lot to take care
of them.
As time passes we get new things and run out of room to store
old things.
Old things get lost and fall apart.
We spill on them. Insects, fires, floods
and even sunlight can damage our treasures.
Accidents happen.
It takes time, money, and effort to
save and protect or repair the things we care about. There
is not enough time, money, and effort in the world to save
everything that everyone values. So people have to make choices
about which things are important enough to save and which
are not.
People establish historical museums
and art museums, in large part, to save and protect things
they care about.
