An unidentified reviewer wrote
in the Salt Lake Tribune on May 19, 1996 about a traveling
exhibition of Jiménez' sculpture Southwest Pieta
is based on a popular legend about two large volcanoes near
Mexico City--Popocatepetl, a male mountain and Ixtacihuatl,
a female mountain. According to legend, the mountains once
lived in the form of an Aztec warrior and the woman he loved.
The sculpture depicts the warrior and his grief at the death
of his lover."
"The piece speaks yards
about Jimenez and the commentaries he tends to make through
his fiberglass artwork. Jimenez has become a contemporary
spokesperson on commingling of cultures as they were in historic
Mexico and as they continue to be in the American Southwest,
