Jiménez protects and evens the
surface of the paint by applying three clear finish coats.
The Southwest Pieta is finished
when Jiménez, through his work with tools and materials,
has transformed his image into a successful visual form. Although
he may have some role in maintaining his works after they
leave his studio, for the most part, the continuing work of
taking care of them is left in the hands of others.
