Jimenez makes his molds using the same
fiberglass materials used to make some car bodies, pleasure
boats and surfboards.
Pieces of woven fiberglass are coated
with resin mixed with a catalyst, which causes a chemical
reaction.
Jiménez stores rolls of
fiberglass and resin in his casting workshop. For safety's
sake he stores the catalyst in another building so that resin
and catalyst cannot come in contact accidentally and set off
a dangerous, uncontrolled reaction.
