What do "Chicana" and "Chicano" mean?

Chicanas (female) and Chicanos (either male and female combined or solely male) are citizens or permanent residents of the United States who are of Mexican descent. Many Chicana/os trace their heritage both to Hispanic and Native American culture.

The terms, "Mexican Americans" and "Chicanos" are synonyms, but the latter usually expresses more ethnic pride
