The Sensory Elements which are the focus of the Images of Me unit are mass and space. Mass is the three dimensional form of an object. Masses occupy and interrelate with the space around them.

In Lesson Two: Mass and Space students analyze the mass and space of several Chicana/o artworks. They consider how sculptors¹ decisions about mass and space can affect the meaning of their sculptures. They also experiment with mass and space in small three-dimensional sketches.

In Lesson Three: Refining Ideas and Making Choices students begin to construct sculptures using mass and space to express their own ideas.

In Lesson Four: Completing Sculpturesstudents complete sculptures working to produce various interesting relationships of mass and space visible in their sculptures as seen from different viewpoints.
