A theme is a general idea. Art makers from many times and cultures have addressed some of the same general ideas in their artworks. When we consider themes we can better understand the meaning of individual artworks, as well as build connections among diverse artworks. "Images of Me" and "Protest and Persuasion" are examples of themes.

In Lesson One: Who Am I? students are introduced to the theme of the unit, Images of Me . In this lesson students use general identity themes to interpret several Chicana/o sculptures.

In Lesson Two: Mass and Space students work with a specific theme (Images of Me) to generate ideas for their own art.

students begin to construct sculptures based on the theme, Images of Me.

In Lesson Four: Completing Sculptures students complete construction sculptures based on the theme, Images of Me.
